There are few things in life more worth loving than “Project Runway.” Nina’s tough criticism, Kors’ shades, Heidi’s “auf Wiedersehens,” and the popularity rise of words like “Fierce.” But the thing to love most about the show is the contestants. And this season, Charleston will get to root for one of its own.

Gordana Gelhausen, owner of King Street’s clothing boutique GOGA, just finished filming the upcoming season of “Project Runway,” in which she will compete with other talented designers from across the country for the coveted spot of America’s next top designer. Our local Charleston celeb talks with CHARLIE.

“America gives us so much opportunity. Apply yourself!” exclaims Gordana, who is originally from Yugoslavia and has lived in Charleston for 11 years. Only time will tell how far our Charleston friend makes it on the show, which moved the contestants to Los Angeles for the filming of this season. While the finale at New York Fashion Week has been taped, due to a pending law suit between Bravo and Lifetime, everyone remains tight-lipped. You’ll have to tune in to see how our local girl fares with guest judges including Christina Aguilera, Eva Longoria Parker and Rebecca Romijn. Air date of “Project Runway” is still TBD.

Dreaming the impossible is a way of life for Gordana, who has made a career out of doing what she loves, as we reap the benefits. She relates to the women of Charleston because like her, we “embrace femininity and want to be beautiful and unique.”

You’ll find Gordana originals coupled with other designers’ frocks in GOGA. Come for bold styles with a focus on subdued solids; she’s not a print or pattern kind of gal. With a unique ability to create texture through lines and draping, Gordana now focuses on carrying and designing pieces that can be worn from the boardroom to a benefit.

Gordana is currently opening her second store in the Gaslamp district of San Diego, CA, but don’t worry – she still sees Charleston as her home and fully intends to stay with us. So go be beautiful and unique, Charleston, just as the GOGA Gods intended.
