Beat the Heat

We get it – it’s hot. Really hot. Like sweating in the shower hot. So we asked you for your favorite ways to cool down during Charleston’s dog days of summer. Do try these at home. Rinse. Repeat.

“One of the best, and cheapest ways to beat the heat is to get wet. Leave the sandy bottoms and crowds at the beach and head to the Martin Luther King pool downtown. Just $2 for city residents ($4 for over-the-bridges folks), and even less for kids and seniors. From the kids taking lessons and the athletes working on their time to the sidestroking Betty that won’t get her hair wet and the dudes checking out their form during lunch, there is definitely a space for you. Jump in!”
- Courtney Hutton

“The Reel Bar is one of the most under-utilized places in the city. My fave cool-down is a quickie 420 sail at CofC Sailing and then a piña colada (with a rum floater) at the Reel Bar with a possible dip in the pool. Fun. Cool. Heaven.”
- Caroline Nuttall

Get up early, open the house, turn on the fans, relax … and by 10 am, shut it all up and turn on the AC.
