Winter Warm Up

Winter doldrums? Pffft. Sure, it’s officially freezing in Charleston, but we’ve got hundreds of ways to be toasty and cozy. Here, a few of our favorite ways to stay warm before it becomes officially melting:

Warm up from the inside out…

Goodbye Swiss Miss. Hello Holy City Hot Chocolate. This custom-blended mix includes thick chunks of dark chocolate that steam perfectly with milk. A 16-oz. tin makes ten frothy mugs of warm, gooey deliciousness made with all-natural, hand-selected ingredients. Plus, you’ll have “Mr. Rich & Delicious” winking at you on the canister every morning you open your cabinet.

…or the outside in.
This is no time for blankets to be bland. Especially when you can find them in vivid colors that’ll make you think of spring…like the turquoise and pale rose Pine Cone Hill throws available at Parker-Sims.

Stay toasty outside…
Hit up Half-Moon Outfitters for disposable hand warmers, cozy wool socks and other cold-weather gear. Besides being Charleston’s top spot for outdoor adventures, it’s a place where you can trust the staffers to help you find the best attire without staging an upsell.

…or beat the heat inside.
What’s the best way to stay inside, burn calories and get all hot and sweaty? Hot yoga, of course. It’s energizing, and it may just make you long for another cold snap. With studios set at 105 degrees to foster flexibility, even freezing temperatures will feel like a gentle breeze after an hour. Try Bikram Yoga Charleston and Jivamukti in Mt. Pleasant, or Charleston Power Yoga and Blue Turtle Yoga downtown.

Head to the beach…
Spring may be weeks away, but there are plenty of reasons to hit the beach now. Like the Warm Lava Shell massage at Wild Dunes, or The Sanctuary at Kiawah, where the signature treatment uses heated herb-filled wraps to sooth muscles. Pretend you’re an Olympian and give your sore body a treat.

…or hit up the backyard
Friends, fires, food…no need to wait for the next oyster roast in town when you can plan one at home. You can even relax in the living room while Food For The Southern Soul gets everything ready, from heat lamps to hip cold-weather cocktails. Hot toddies to the rescue.
