Thanks Be To You

We love Thanksgiving. A time to give thanks for the interesting, inspired people and happenings that make Charleston such an extraordinary place to live. This, of course, is why CHARLIE even exists. We aim to celebrate and inspire progress in one of the most beautifully and culturally significant cities in the world. We hope to bring like-minded people together through an engaging experience that lets us feel great about our city and affect her future. So, this Thanksgiving, we give thanks to you. For starting small businesses, for buying local, for pushing the “old Charleston” envelope, for driving the movements that inspire us to write each week and, of course, for reading and supporting CHARLIE.

Since this week is all about you, we thought it only fitting to feature what you have to say.

Here is what you, Charleston, are most thankful for this Turkey Day…

“The chefs!”
- Lynn Seldon

“I am thankful for my father and brother in law who are in Kuwait and Afghanistan for our military. This Thanksgiving will be the last time our family will all be together for a few years, so we are going all out!”
- Amanda Bunting Comen

“The preservation of history and character in Charleston. Nothing is more magical than strolling through neighborhoods on the peninsula. Each time I fall in love again with this lovely, unique place we call home.”
- Claire Gibbons

“I am thankful that my husband’s surgery went well and I will be taking him home to begin healing (today)!”
- Kimberly McKee

“The amazing, vibrant cultural destination that Charleston has become – thanks to both long-time locals (like myself!), welcomed newcomers, and anyone in between. There’s always something exciting, clever, fun or relaxing (or all of the above) to do in Charleston to suit your desires.”
- Erin Watson

“The beach.” Thanksgiving Recipe
- Caroline Jackson

“I am thankful for all of the wonderful places to run throughout Charleston, from the bridge, to the quaint brick streets to the battery where you can run along the water and have dolphins swim by you!!!! It is beautiful!!!”
- Rachel Griffin Stapleton

“The dog parks downtown!”
- Laura Roemer

“I’m thankful for my supportive friends and family! Also happy to be a Jaycee with all community outreach programs while improving myself! Giving thanks to the holidays.”
- Juice Davidson

“The nightlife.”
- Hailey Nagel

“I would say the people and…the preservation of history and character.”
- Sherrie Bakshi

“The beautiful sunrises and sunsets over the water.”

- Stacy Huggins

“Thankful for our customers & Twitter followers-that they’re safe, haven’t had to brace for hurricanes so far this year in SC.”
- ChsHurricanes

“I’m most thankful for the active ‘can-do,’ ‘we do what needs to be done’ community both formal and informal in Charleston.”
- Sean Hughes

“After another truly fantastic Sunday night dinner, I’m thankful for Guerilla Cuisine for squeezing the last drop of delicious goodness out of Sunday once a month.”

- Darcy Whalen

“I am thankful for the New Ravenel Bridge and never having to drive on the old ones again!”
- Jennifer Causby

“I am thankful that I was brave enough to recognize Love when it showed up in an unexpected package. I am thankful that I have grown into the type of woman who isn’t afraid to be who and what she is, and that I have the kind of people in my life who are not only all right with that, but think that it’s pretty wonderful. I am thankful to have a job that I’m good at, and talent enough to have options in the future. I am thankful to live in one of the most beautiful cities on Earth!”
- Sarah Ragsdale

“I’m thankful for a great family that reminds me everyday just how great I am because there are so many out there that do not.”
- Ronii Bartles

- Susie Armstrong

“That you can live here for many years & still spend a day off work or a weekend day just cruising around downtown Charleston and STILL see and do things you have never done! That is just incredible and makes me realize all the things I have yet to do in this town.”
- Leigh Ann S. Garrett

“I’m thankful for Fred Neuville and his love of duck fat.”
- Kevin Curler
