red, WRITE & blue
For those who have stepped into Mac & Murphy, you know it’s a special place.
The quaint and lovely Charleston paper store, which adequately refers to its space as an “enchanting, modern day jewelry box,” makes stationery as chic as can be. Gorgeous letterpress cards, stylized paper, custom-print note cards and journals line the stark white walls with a sophistication that makes you think you should be looking at $800 Manolo Blahniks as opposed to greeting cards. But don’t for a second think it’s stuffy. One look at the Old Tom Foolery collection, sporting beautiful cards with amusing text, like “Good Luck*” (*you’re going to need a crap load of it) and “I love you*” (*statement only valid if you say you love me back) – and you’ll know you’re in a fun place.
Fun, and patriotic, it turns out.
Enter “red, WRITE & blue,” the shop’s current do-good initiative, connecting Charleston locals with our overseas troops. Gal pals Liz Macpherson (Mac) and Ami Murphy (& Murphy) have teamed up with Adopt A US Soldier to send letters, cards and care packages to the men and women serving our country, who surely need a little support themselves.
Simply step into the store, pick up a card (for as little as 50 cents!), write a note, and Mac & Murphy will mail it for you. They’ll supply the stamp and all. They may even lick the envelope if you ask nicely.
The best part? You get to sit in their adorable writing garden. With the weather as nice as it is, this place is a true sanctuary, so take a load off and enjoy the shaded garden, koi pond and even a glass of wine, compliments of the store.
Of course you can do this any time and send your card to any one, but if you get in today (before 6pm), you’ll receive 10% off all stationery and your note will go to a soldier, in the mail tomorrow, September 11.
Go in. Write your heart out.
