Neck Envy: Embracing the Tie
Let’s face it, nearly every man has a dislike for shopping and will find a way to avoid the “task” at all cost. Then there’s the exception to the rule. Enter the necktie.
Now, some men love wearing ties while others pull irritatingly at their neck piece like it’s a choking noose but, whether they like wearing them or not, ties excite a man. Why? It’s simple. The tie is the only item in a man’s closet that shows off his personality. It is that one item about which men would dare ask, “Do you like my tie?” or, “Did you see that dude’s tie? Stupid.”
Time to embrace the tie.
Did you know that Charleston is one of the leading cities in the U.S. for tie sales? True. In fact, the Jos. A Banks shop on King is the leading seller in bow ties out of its 463 retail stores nationwide.
Ties are not restricted to dressing up a suit, but the business casual style of wearing ties has become a lost tradition almost everywhere besides Charleston. It’s no wonder, given the vast assortment and variety of tie that Charleston has to offer.
Ben Silver‘s display includes rep ties that are designed in-house. Its customers generally pair ties with the old faithful navy blazer, but they also carry the trendy silk knit ties that pair well with denim and shorts.
Next door, Ralph Lauren‘s assortment is being paired with anything from cargo pants to a cardigan. Tie designers Matthew White and Sean Crawley do an exceptional job of designing ties that are one of a kind. Don’t forget your pirate bow tie that makes for a great icebreaker!
Of course the regimental stripes, critters and solids are always a safe bet. When it comes to width, the sky’s the limit! It’s a personal preference; they’re all classy. Knowing the popularity of ties, Brooks Brothers has made an option available to custom design your own, choosing both a width and fabric. Ties made to order. And if you need to learn how to tie your tie, Brooks Brothers offers step-by-step take-home instructions.
Grady Ervin does not show favoritism when it comes to brand. The store has done its research and carries any and all styles men desire. From the classics to the trend. If you don’t know where to begin, you can’t go wrong with its selection. And don’t forget your pocket squares.
To tie this up (we’re so clever), if you are forgoing the tie: stop! Wear it with pride at happy hours, picnics, the office, events (definitely Spoleto) or whenever you fancy something different. Show people what Charleston and your oh-so-stylish neck have to offer.
