Socks With A Kick
Socks say a lot about a man.
Let a white crew sock slip into sight from beneath the hem of your trousers and risk committing the biggest style catastrophe possible.
But then again, sometimes the standard black dress sock just doesn’t cut it either.
Enter Oberon socks, the hippest thing to happen to men’s feet in the Holy City since we don’t know when.
“Socks show an attention to detail in how people look and dress,” says owner Christopher Clark who operates the company from his apartment/design studio in downtown Charleston. And these socks are all about the details.
The current collection features shades of grey and blue wool argyles accented with delicately hip skull and crossbones. Clark hints the newest batch of socks will include pink elephants and umbrellas…among a few other surprises.
Oberon’s style mantra is to bring modern fashion to professional work wear.
“Socks are that one item in corporate wardrobe you can have fun and get away with,” says Clark.
Clark finds inspiration for his socks through submissions by local designers whom he works closely with throughout the design process to take the drab dress sock and amp it up, while keeping them still appropriate for the office environment.
So look at your dresser, gentlemen. And put a sock in it.
